| Songs with Bad Grammar In Them |
| Song | Artist | Wrong | Right |
| I Don't Want To Wait | Paula Cole | Say a little prayer for I | Say a little prayer for me |
| You use "I" in the subjective case, "me" in the objective case. Me is the object of the proposition "for." No matter where it appears, use ME as the object of prepositions. Too bad it just doesn't rhyme with the rest of the song!! |
| |
| I Wanna Talk About Me | Toby Keith | I Wanna Talk about I | I Wanna Talk About Me |
| Same as above. Only he does use the right grammar in the line just before it. |
| Hungry Eyes | Eric Carmen | I feel the magic between you and I | ...between you and me |
| Ditto. Now you tell me - what should this line be? |
| |
| Satisfaction | The Rolling Stones | I can't get no…. | I can't get any… |
| |
| It Don't Come Easy | Ringo Starr | It don't come… | It doesn't come… |
| |
| Ain't No Sunshine | Bill Withers | Ain't no sunshine | there isn't any |
| |
| Unbreak My Heart | Toni Braxton | Unbreak? Come on. | |
| |
| I Can't Unlove You | Kenny Rogers | Unlove? | Sure I can. It's called hate! |
| |
| Love Don't Live Here Anymore | Madonna | Love don't live here… | Love doesn't live here… |
| They just didn't have room for that extra syllable I guess. |
| |
| Settle for a Slowdown | Dierks Bentley | You ain't showed it yet | We have to give *some* leeway, since it's country music and all... |
| |
| Six Feet From the Edge | Creed | Six feet from the edge and I'm thinkin', six feet ain't so far down | Nothing replaces this |
| This isn't so much bad grammar, as bad word choice. Any distance 'from the edge' implies a horizontal distance. 'Six feet ain't so far down' implies a vertical distance. Are you going over, or down??? |
| |
| Any song with Ain't - not that "ain't" isn't a great word, but usually it's followed by a negative - Ain't Nobody, Aint No .... etc. That would be a double negative, which would be a positive. |
| |
Don't you mean "....but usually its followed by...."? Heck no! It's is a contraction of 'It is.' that is the ONLY time you should use the apostrophe - when you can replace it's with "it is." Its is a perfectly acceptable plural possessive prounoun, just like 'his' or 'hers' or 'yours.' You wouldn't use "her's," now would you? Heaven forbid!!!
Use Its when you need to assign possession to an inanimate object - like a car. "The car lost its brakes when it was driven through a big puddle." or "The deciduous tree lost its leaves early in the fall this year."
